What Is Perfect Ratio Of Chia Seeds to Yogurt?

In my opinion, for a creamy, pudding like consistency is chia : yogurt : milk = 1 : 4 : 4

My standard recipe is ¼ cup chia seeds, 1 cup thick Greek yogurt, 1 cup milk. Check out my video below to see exactly how this looks. This is for overnight Chia Pudding with Yogurt.

Add 1 -2 tablespoons more chia seeds if you prefer it thicker.

Take note that some yogurts are thicker than others and will therefore result in different textures of chia pudding with yogurt. A chia pudding with Greek yogurt will be thicker than one made with a thinner, coconut yogurt for example.

Play around by decreasing the amount of chia seeds for thicker yogurts where there isn't a lot of liquid to absorb into the seeds.

Ingredients

Here's everything I used to make this recipe for chia pudding with yogurt, no milk:

chia pudding with yogurt
  • Chia seeds: Use white or black chia seeds. I like to use super fresh chia seeds for the best results.
  • Milk: Whatever your go-to is.
  • Yogurt: Protein and probiotics are really important to me so I go for a Greek yogurt (or one made in a Greek style), with no fillers or thickeners and high levels of protein.
  • Vanilla: This is optional but I love adding it!

You can find ingredient quantities in the recipe card below

Instructions

Here's exactly how I made this luscious, ultra thick and creamy chia pudding with yogurt:

Step 1: Gather the ingredients for your pudding. Add the yogurt and milk to a container and whisk them together. Fold in the yogurt. Leave to set for 15 minutes.

Step 2: After 15 minutes, blend again to whizz out any lumps and bumps.

Step 3: Chill overnight or for at least 2 hours. Top with your favorite breakfast ingredients and enjou your Chia Pudding with Yogurt!

Hint: I like to use a mini milk frother to whizz up my chia pudding yogurt mixture but a whisk is great, too.

Substitutions

Use a flavored yogurt if you prefer. You can also flavor the chia pudding with yogurt recipe with almond essence, orange zest, or honey if you want something other than vanilla.

How To Serve It

I love to have mine with a loaded tablespoon of my Berry Sauce or Blueberry Compote.

Boost your chia pudding with yogurt with a vanilla protein powder.

If you want a sweet version, add a little maple syrup to the vanilla.

Nut butter boost: I love adding nut butters to my chia pudding recipes for extra goodness. My kids love it too. Try brazil nut butter, almond or macadamia nut butter.

Break open a probiotic pill and mix it into the Chia Pudding with Yogurt for further gut support.

Equipment

I used a milk frother and a container for this recipe. That's it! You can also use a fork or a whisk instead of the frother.

Storage

This recipe keeps for about 4 days in a sealed, airtight container, in the refrigerator. I don't recommend freezing it.

I like to keep mine in a large glass container or divide it into individual containers for easy portioning.

Top Tip

  1. Measure your ingredients carefully as the ratios can affect the results.
  2. Follow the recipe first and whizz the milk and chia seeds first. Then, once they're combined, add the yogurt. This is the easiest way to get everything combined well.
  3. Chill for a minimum of 2 hours.
  4. Give the mixture a quick mix before serving it. Just to get rid of any lumps.

FAQ

Can I make chia pudding with yogurt and no milk?

You can but it will be very thick and quite dense. Consider adding some water in this case.

Which yogurts are best in this overnight chia pudding with yogurt?

I recommend Greek yogurt or unsweetened coconut yogurt.

Why is my chia pudding with yogurt clumpy?

Chia pudding is lumpy when the mixture hasn't been mixed properly. It needs to be mixed at the start and then again after 15-20 minutes.

How do I fix it if its too runny?

Add in another teaspoon and set for 15 more minutes.

Can I sweeten this overnight chia pudding with yogurt?

Yup! Whisk 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup in with the vanilla.
